Cantabrick

Since its conception, Cantabrick was raised as a project committed to protect natural resources and respect the environment responding to the three basic aspects:

• The reduction of emissions of polluting gases with a greenhouse effect. The company has carried out a strict control of CO2 emissions in accordance with existing legislation and with the Plan Nacional de Asignación (National Allocation Plan) 2005-2007, corresponding to the first period of implementation of Kyoto Protocol.
• Sustainable treatment of waste. At present, Cantabrick is managing all the waste generated in the company. We are authorized by the Consejería del Medio Ambiente (Ministry of Environment) as a producer of waste, hence we have two specialized managers who are authorized to collect, transport and process them properly.
• Improvement in production processes in order to reduce energy consumption. In 2007 we implemented an improvement program which shall be consolidate in the following two years and completed by 2010.

These improvements will achieve a real reduction of approximately 30% of the factory’s energy consumption. In addition to that, in 2008 our factory shall be granted the Autorización Ambiental Integrada (Integrated Environmental Authorization), which shall include, in a single authorization all existing sectorial environmental certifications (production and waste management, disposal authorization, etc.).

Its aim is to protect the ecological environment as a whole, applying the principles of prevention and environmental control to prevent the transference of pollution from one medium to another, imposing specific limit values for each installation of all environmental vectors (air, water, noise, waste, soil...), as well as plans for monitoring and verification.
